Zhelekhivsky, Andrii [Желехівський, Андрій; Želexivs'kyj, Andrij], b 11 December 1892 in Lypovtsi, Kyiv gubernia, d 1943. Physicist. A graduate of Kyiv University and Kharkiv University, Zhelekhivsky was a long-time head of the physics department at Kharkiv University and the All-Ukrainian Association of Physicists (est 1926). He was a member of the Kharkiv Mathematics Society and taught at Kharkiv Medical Institute. He wrote several monographs and a university-level physics textbook. In 1943 he was arrested by Soviet authorities and died in prison.
