Zhukovsky, Oleksander or Zhukivsky [Жуковський or Жуківський, Олександер; Žukovs'kyj or Žukovs'kyj], b 22 November 1884 in Yosypivka, Balta county, Podilia gubernia, d 19 February 1925 in Balta. Colonel of the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic, political activist. He was a ‘centrist’ member of the Ukrainian Party of Socialist Revolutionaries (UPSR), a delegate to two All-Ukrainian military congresses, and a member of the Central Rada and the General Military Committee in 1917. He became an adjutant to the minister of defense and labor of the Ukrainian National Republic in January 1918, and in February he himself became minister of defense. In early 1919 he commanded an independent border corps and led the Kamianets-Podilskyi garrison. He emigrated in 1919 to Prague and then to Vienna, where he became secretary of the Foreign Delegation of the UPSR and worked closely with Mykhailo Hrushevsky.
