Kowalsky, Myron [Koval’s’kyj], b 11 July1941 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Educator and politician. Raised in the area northeast of North Battleford, Kowalsky began a teaching career in 1961. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA (1967), BEd (1971), and post-graduate diploma in curriculum studies (1975) and was active in the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation both locally and provincially. He was first elected to the Saskatchewan legislature from the Prince Albert Carlton constituency as a New Democratic party representative in 1986. He was re-elected in 1991, 1995, and 1999. He served as the Government Whip in 1991–2001 before being elected as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (2001–2007). In 1994 he edited a short biographic guide to Ukrainians in the Saskatchewan Legislature. He retired from politics in 2007.
