Kozachynsky, Mykhail

Kozachynsky, Mykhail (Manuil) [Kozačyns’kyj, Myxajil], b 1699 in Yampil, Podilia, d 27 August 1755 in Slutsk, Belarus. Pedagogue and writer. After graduating from the Kyivan Mohyla Academy in 1733, he was a teacher and prefect in Karlovac, Croatia. In 1737 he entered the Vydubychi Monastery in Kyiv, and from 1739 to 1746 he was a prefect and lecturer at the Kyivan Mohyla Academy. From 1748 he was the archimandrite of the Slutsk Monastery. He wrote panegyrical poetry, two plays—about the fall of the Serbian Kingdom (1733; pub, 1798) and Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (1745)—and a disputation on Aristotelean philosophy (1745).
