Laba River [Лаба]. A left-bank tributary of the Kuban River in the Kuban region. It is 214 km in length and drains a basin area of 12,500 sq km. The Laba begins at the confluence of the Velyka Laba (130 km in length) and the Mala Laba rivers, which arise from glaciers in the northern Caucasus Mountains in Krasnodar krai. The Laba passes through a deep valley and then flows through Subcaucasia (within the Adygei Republic) and the Kuban Lowland steppe. Floodplains are found at its mouth. The Laba is a potential source of hydroelectric power.
