League of Ukrainian Catholics of America

League of Ukrainian Catholics of America (Ліґа українських католиків; Liga ukrainskykh katolykiv, or ЛУК; LUK). A social organization for Eastern rite Catholics of Ukrainian origin. It was established in 1933 as a cultural, social, and religious association of young Catholics and was known initially as the Ukrainian Catholic Youth League in America. The first head of the league was Bohdan Katamai. In the early 1960s its name was changed to the current one. The league provides scholarships for theology students and aid to needy Ukrainians and organizes three national gatherings each year: a convention, a sports competition, and a religious retreat. From 1934 it published a monthly magazine, Ukrainian Youth, initially in Ukrainian and then in English. From 1966 it published Action.
