Levytsky, Osyp [Левицький, Осип; Levyc'kyj], b 21 December 1886 in Verbizh, Kolomyia county, Galicia, d 11 June 1973 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Educator. A graduate of Graz University (1913), during the First World War he served in the Austrian army and later in the Ukrainian Galician Army as chief of the Press Office of the Supreme Command of the Ukrainian Galician Army and then as officer for special assignments. After the war he taught at and later became principal of the Ukrainian gymnasium in Stanyslaviv and organized scouting troops for the Plast Ukrainian Youth Association. At the end of the Second World War he directed gymnasiums in Krynytsia (Krynica) and Vienna. After emigrating to the United States in 1949, he organized and supervised a Ukrainian school in Chicago and served as an inspector of schools for the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (1954–62). He wrote a book of recollections, Halyts'ka armiia na Velykii Ukraïni (The Galician Army in Central Ukraine, 1921), and helped to edit the first two volumes of Ukraïns'ka halyts’ka armiia (The Ukrainian Galician Army, 1958–60) and Al'manakh stanyslavivs'koï zemli (Almanac of the Stanyslaviv Region, vol 1, 1975).
