Lokhvytsky, Kindrat

Lokhvytsky, Kindrat [Лохвицький, Кіндрат; Loxvyc'kyj], b 1770, d 11 September 1849 in Kyiv. Mystic and amateur archeologist in Kyiv. In the course of excavations he discovered in 1824 the foundations of the Church of the Tithes, in 1832 the remains of the Golden Gate, in 1833 the foundations of Saint Irene’s Church dating back to the times of Yaroslav the Wise, and ruins of unidentified buildings from the Princely era. He amassed a valuable collection of coins and medals from various historical periods.
