Stinka, John [Стінка, Іван], b 24 January 1935 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan, d 19 September 2022 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ukrainian Orthodox church hierarch. He obtained his secondary education in Yorkton. After earning a teaching certificate, he taught in rural Saskatchewan and worked for a decade in Saskatoon before undertaking theological studies at Saint Andrew's College in Winnipeg. He was ordained in 1974 and served in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and then Kamsack, Saskatchewan. During this time he completed a B.A. at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1983 he was made the bishop of Saskatoon and then in 1985 he was appointed as bishop of Edmonton and the Western Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. Following the death of Wasyl Fedak in 2005, he became the church’s acting primate, and was confirmed in this position in 2006. He retired in 2010 due to health reasons and was replaced by Yurij Kalischuk.
