Balaban, Dionisii

Balaban, Dionisii [Балабан, Діонісій], b ?, d 10 May 1663 in Korsun. Orthodox church leader. Having studied at the Kyivan Mohyla College, he became the bishop of Kholm (1650–2) (see Kholm eparchy), then of Lutsk (1655) (see Lutsk eparchy), and finally metropolitan of Kyiv (1657–63) (see Kyiv metropoly). He supported Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky. His election was secured by Constantinople in opposition to Moscow.
