Bezpaly, Ivan

Bezpaly, Ivan [Безпалий, Іван; Bezpalyj], b ? d 1718. Cossack officer in the Uman regiment; acting hetman (1658–9), chosen by the pro-Russian Cossack starshyna, who opposed the pro-Polish hetman Ivan Vyhovsky. When Yurii Khmelnytsky was elected hetman in 1659, Bezpaly became his general judge (1659–60). In 1668 he was a general quartermaster under Hetman Ivan Briukhovetsky.
