Filomafitsky, Evgraf

Filomafitsky, Evgraf [Филомафицкий, Евграф; Filomafitskij, Jevgraf], b 20 December 1790 in Malakhovo, Yaroslavl gubernia, Russia, d 16 April 1831 in Kharkiv. Scholar and writer of Russian origin. Filomafitsky graduated from Kharkiv University and in 1826 was appointed professor of general history, geography, and statistics at the university. Together with Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko and Rozumnyk Honorsky, Filomafitsky was the editor of the first journal in Ukraine, Ukrainskii vestnik (Kharkiv) (1816–19), which dealt with literary, artistic, scholarly, and political affairs. He is also known as a promoter of the theater in Ukraine.
