Gerbel, Sergei

Gerbel, Sergei [Гербель, Сергей; Gerbel', Sergej], b 1856 in Saint Petersburg, d 1939 in Yugoslavia. Political leader and government official. Gerbel was a landowner from the Kherson region who was governor of Kharkiv gubernia until the Revolution of 1917. In the summer of 1918 he became minister of food provisions in the Hetman government, retaining this position in the cabinet formed by Fedir Lyzohub in October 1918. When the Hetman government proclaimed its federation with Russia on 14 November, Gerbel became prime minister and minister of agrarian affairs. He held these positions until 14 December 1918.
