Holubovsky, Zakharii

Holubovsky, Zakharii [Голубовський, Захарій; Holubovs'kyj, Zaxarij; né Голубничий, Зіновій; Holubnychy, Zinovii], b 1736 in Keleberda, Poltava regiment, d 25 December 1810 in Kyiv. Painter, graduate of the Kyivan Mohyla Academy and the Kyivan Cave Monastery Icon Painting and Art Studio. As head of the studio (1772–6), he took part in painting and restoring the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyivan Cave Monastery and directed the painting of the underground churches of the Near Caves. Of his paintings only the Holy Martyr with a Flower in Her Hand (end of the 18th century), a fine example of the Ukrainian baroque style, has been preserved.
