Kaminsky, Viacheslav

Kaminsky, Viacheslav [Камінський, В’ячеслав; Kamins'kyj, Vjačeslav], b 4 October 1869 in Kosarevo, Dubno county, Volhynia gubernia, d 1939 in Kyiv. Ethnographer; a specialist in Ukrainian customary law. For over 10 years he was the secretary of the Commission for the Study of Ukraine's Customary Law at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN). Kaminsky contributed articles to the commission’s series Pratsi Komisiï dlia vyuchuvannia zvychaievoho prava Ukraïny and to the journals Etnohrafichnyi visnyk and Zapysky Istorychno-filolohichnoho viddilu VUAN; a separate collection of his essays appeared as Narysy zvychaievoho prava Ukraïny (Sketches of the Customary Law of Ukraine, 1928). Kaminsky was arrested by the Soviet authorities in 1934 and died in prison.
