Kmit, Yurii

Kmit, Yurii [Кміт, Юрій], b 24 April 1872 in Koblo-Stare, Sambir county, Galicia, d 25 June 1946 in Tatryniv, Sambir raion, Lviv oblast. Writer, literary scholar, ethnographer, priest. His ethnographic research focused on the culture and life-style of the Boikos about whom he wrote such literary works as Z hir (From the Mountains), V zatinku i na sontsi (In the Shade and in the Sun, 1910), a collection of short stories, and Tremtinnia dushi (The Trembling of the Soul, 1922). Some of these works were written in the Boiko dialect. He also wrote articles popularizing the work of various Ukrainian and European writers.
