Kostenko, Serhii [Костенко, Сергій], b 1868 in Kyiv, d 1900 in Paris. Realist painter. After graduating from the Kyiv Drawing School in 1889, he taught there and took part in painting Saint Volodymyr's Cathedral in Kyiv, where he did the murals Volodymyr's Baptism and Blessedness of Paradise. He also painted The Last Supper in the Askoldova Mohyla Church. His easel paintings Faust and Margaret, The Dnipro, and Self-portrait were displayed in 1889 at the exhibitions of the Peredvizhniki in Kyiv. In 1893 he went to Paris, where his works were exhibited in salons. He fell ill and died in a mental hospital.
