Leontovych, Pavlo

Leontovych, Pavlo [Леонтович, Павло; Leontovyč], b 9 March 1825 in Shchutkiv, Galicia, d 19 May 1880 in Ruda Krekhivska, Zhovkva county, Galicia. Poet and writer; Ukrainian Catholic priest by vocation. He was one of the publishers of the almanac Lirvak iz nad Siana (Lira Player from the Banks of the Sian, 1852), in which some of his poems and stories appeared under the pseud Pavlo iz Shchutkova. His articles, short stories, fables, and poetry were published in journals, such as Novyny and Vechernytsi, in the newspaper Slovo (Lviv), and in several literary collections.
