Malczewski, Antoni, b 3 June 1793 in Kniahynyne, near Dubno, Volhynia, d 2 May 1826 in Warsaw. Polish poet; member of the Ukrainian school in Polish literature. He completed his education at the Kremianets Lyceum in 1811. His only published work, Maria, powieść ukraińska (Maria, A Ukrainian Novelette, 1825), was written under the influence of the Ukrainian folk oral literature and contains descriptions of Ukraine’s landscapes and people.
