Mateiuk, Antonii

Mateiuk, Antonii [Матеюк, Антоній; Matejiuk, Antonij], b ? in Uhnyn, Kholm gubernia, d November 1919 in Zhmerynka, Vinnytsia county, Podilia gubernia. Orthodox priest and political and military activist. In 1917 he organized the All-People’s Congress of the Kholm region in Kyiv and served as vice-chairman of the Kholm Gubernia Executive Committee and as one of its representatives to the Central Rada. Later he was chaplain of the second of the Serdiuk guard divisions and (under the Directory of the Ukrainian National Republic) head chaplain of the Army of the Ukrainian National REpublic. After contracting typhus he was captured by Anton Denikin’s troops and executed.
