Oleh Sviatoslavych

Oleh Sviatoslavych [Svjatoslavyč], b ?, d 977 in Ovruch, Volhynia. Appanage prince; son of Grand Prince Sviatoslav I Ihorovych. He received the Derevlianian land from Sviatoslav. After Sviatoslav's death Oleh's half-brother, Yaropolk I Sviatoslavych, sought to annex all Ukrainian territories and moved against him. Oleh died during a battle after falling off his horse into a moat. In 1044 Oleh's nephew, Yaroslav the Wise, had Oleh's remains exhumed, baptized, and reburied in the Church of the Tithes in Kyiv.
