Parasiuk, Wilson

Parasiuk, Wilson, b 6 May 1943 in Stenen, Saskatchewan. (Photo: Wilson Parasiuk.) Politician and entrepreneur. Parasiuk was educated at the University of Manitoba (1965) and Saint John's College, Oxford (MA, 1968) on a Rhodes scholarship. After several years as a civil servant, he was elected to the provincial legislature of Manitoba in 1977 as the New Democratic party member for Transcona. He was re-elected in 1981 and 1986, and he served as minister of crown investments in 1982–3, minister of energy and mines responsible for Manitoba Hydro in 1981–7, and minister of health in 1988. In 1989 Parasiuk moved to the Vancouver region, where he took up a number of private and public sector positions.
