Pidvysotsky, Volodymyr

Pidvysotsky, Volodymyr [Підвисоцький, Володимир; Pidvysoc'kyj], b 5 June 1857 in Maksymivka, Borzna county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 4 February 1913 in Saint Petersburg. Pathologist, microbiologist, and endocrinologist. A graduate of Kyiv University (1884), he was a professor at Kyiv University (1887–1900) and Odesa University (1900–5) and directed the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Saint Petersburg (1905–13). His publications dealt with the microscopic structure of the pancreas, regeneration, and the etiology of malignant tumors. He wrote one of the first textbooks in general and experimental pathology (1891–4, 1905). Among his followers were Ivan Savchenko, Oleksander Bohomolets, Lev Tarasevych, Fedir Omelchenko, Danylo Zabolotny, and Serhii Shchasny.
