Soboliev, Dmytro

Soboliev, Dmytro or Sobolev, Dmitrii [Соболєв, Дмитро; Soboljev], b 6 August 1872 in Khripeli, Kostroma gubernia, Russia, d 16 March 1949 in Kharkiv. Geologist. He graduated from Warsaw University in 1899. He then became a professor at Kharkiv University (1914) and chaired its geology department (1922). He conducted research on the Devonian deposits of the East European Platform and the geological structure, paleontology, tectonics, and geomorphology of Ukraine. He was one of the first to assert, in 1933, the presence of petroleum deposits in the Dnipro-Donets Trough.
