Sokalsky, Volodymyr

Sokalsky, Volodymyr [Сокальський, Володимир; Sokal's'kyj; secular name: Vasyl], b ca 1725, d ca 1790. After studying at the Kyivan Mohyla Academy and serving as hegumen of the Samara Saint Nicholas’s Monastery, he became (from 1762) the last pastor at the church of the Zaporozhian Sich and the last archimandrite of the monastery (1774–5). He later became archimandrite of Saint Nicholas’s Monastery near Baturyn (1776–90).
