Tulub, Pavlo

Tulub, Pavlo [Тулуб, Павло], b 25 February 1862 in Kyiv, d 16 March 1923 in Kyiv. Lawyer and writer; father of Zinaida Tulub. The son of a member of the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood, he worked as a lawyer in Kyiv, Bratslav, and Tahanrih and wrote poetry in Russian. In the years 1904–8 he published Russian translations of 15 of Taras Shevchenko’s poems in the journal Vestnik Evropy. He also translated poems by Shevchenko that were forbidden by the tsarist censors; they appeared in I. Belousov’s Russian edition of Kobzar (Moscow 1919).
