Vaskivsky, Viacheslav

Vaskivsky, Viacheslav [Васьківський, В’ячеслав; Vas'kivs'kyj, Vjačeslav], b 15 February 1904 in Rivne, Volhynia, d 26 December 1975 in Warsaw. Artist and educator. In the late 1920s he studied art at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and belonged to the Spokii art circle. In 1937 he began teaching at the academy, and worked there as professor in 1956–74. Besides drawing, painting, and using traditional graphic techniques, he experimented widely with Xylotype, colored aquatype, deep linocut, and engraving in various plastic media. His works, many of which deal with Ukrainian subjects (landscapes and portraits), are found in museums in Warsaw, Cracow, New York, Chicago, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Kaniv.
