Yarema, Oleksa

Yarema, Oleksa [Ярема, Олекса; Jarema], b 23 September 1854 in Drozdovychi, Galicia, d 21 November 1930 in Peremyshl. Educator and civic activist in Galicia. He taught classical languages at the Academic Gymnasium of Lviv (1885–91) and the Peremyshl State Gymnasium (1892–1909) and then served as principal of the Ukrainian Girls' Institute in Peremyshl (1910–21). He was also president of a number of Ukrainian organizations, including the Peremyshl branch of Prosvita. He was a deputy of the Ukrainian National Rada of the Western Ukrainian National Republic.
