Yefrem, Bishop

Yefrem, Bishop [Jefrem]. Church hierarch of the late 11th century. A monk from the Kyivan Cave Monastery, he traveled to Constantinople, where he acquired a copy of the Studite monastic rules (see Studite Fathers) that were adopted at the Kyivan Cave Monastery. He later became bishop of Pereiaslav. According to some sources, he subsequently became the second locally born metropolitan of Kyiv, ca 1089–97.
