Katamai, Dmytro [Катамай, Дмитро; Katamaj], b 28 September 1887 in Yamnytsia, Stanyslaviv county, Galicia, d 3 April 1935 in Vienna. Political and civic figure. He sat on the executive committee of the Ukrainian Radical party and edited its weekly Hromads’kyi holos (1911–14). In 1913 he founded the literary and scientific monthly Iliustrovana Ukraïna. Before the First World War, Katamai was an organizer of the Sich societies. During the war he served as secretary (1914–17) on the Combat Executive of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen (USS) and as a lieutenant colonel in the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. He designed the mazepynka cap, known originally as the katamaivka, which was part of the USS uniform.
