Kolomyiets, Anatol [Коломиєць, Анатоль; Kolomyjec', Anatol'] aka Kolomayets, Anatole, b 12 February 1927 in Ivanivka, Poltava region, d 9 December 2014 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Painter. From 1948 to 1953 he studied painting at Saint Luke’s Institute and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, Belgium. In 1954 he came to the United States of America and settled in Chicago, where he worked as a commercial artist for the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune. He was a founder of the Monolith group of Ukrainian artists. Specializing in oils and watercolors, he held over 20 one-man exhibits in North America and participated in many group shows. His paintings, such as Mother of Sorrows and Hutsul, are expressionist, but retain a strong grasp of the object. He also painted some icons and designed a number of iconostases.
