Lebedyntsev, Teofan [Лебединцев, Теофан; Lebedyncev] (Lebedintsev, Feofan), b 24 March 1828 in Zelena Dibrova, Zvenyhorodka county, Kyiv gubernia, d 24 March 1888 in Kyiv. Historian and educator. He studied at the Voronezh and Kyiv seminaries and at the Kyiv Theological Academy, where in 1861–4 he was a professor, and then directed the Kholm, Lublin, and Radom school districts, in 1864–80. A specialist in the history of the Orthodox church and its brotherhoods in Ukraine, he founded and edited a periodical for village clergy titled Rukovodstvo dlia sel’skikh pastyrei (Kyiv, 1860–3), in which he published a number of his own articles, and wrote for the journal Osnova (Saint Petersburg). Lebedyntsev was one of the founders of the journal Kievskaia starina (1882) and the editor of the second and third volumes of the Arkhiv Iugo-Zapadnoi Rossii. He wrote four sermons in Ukrainian (1861–3), the study Bratstva, ikhnia kolyshnia i nynishnia dolia ta znachennia (Brotherhoods, Their Former and Present-Day Destiny and Significance, 1862), and memoirs of the poet Taras Shevchenko (published in Kievskaia starina).
