Pasternak, Ivan [Пастернак, Іван], b 24 June 1876 in Novyi Pavliv, Podlachia, d 25 May 1943 in Biała Podlaska, Podlachia. Educator, civic leader, and a pioneer of the Ukrainian revival in Podlachia; father of Yevhen Pasternak. He worked as a public school teacher and in 1922 was elected to the Polish Senate. He was president of the Ridna Khata society in Kholm (1923–7). During the Second World War he served as the first president of the Ukrainian Relief Committee and as chairman of the auditing committee of the Podlachian Union of Ukrainian Co-operatives in Biała Podlaska. He was murdered by Polish partisans.
