Savytsky, Omelian [Савицький, Омелян; Savyc'kyj, Omeljan], b 1845 in Hrabivka, Kalush county, Galicia, d 8 August 1921 in Bolekhiv, now in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. Pedagogue. He graduated from Lviv University with a doctorate in physics and mathematics and taught at the Academic Gymnasium of Lviv from 1871 until 1907, when he became director of a gymnasium in Ternopil, a post he held until 1914. He was the author of the first textbooks in mathematics and physics published in Ukrainian for pupils of secondary schools in Galicia. He also worked on a Ukrainian terminology for mathematics and physics.
