Siminsky, Kostiantyn or Syminsky [Сімінський, Костянтин; Simins'kyj], b 6 March 1879 in Myleichytsi, Brest county, Hrodna gubernia, d 13 June 1932 in Kyiv. Civil and construction mechanics engineer; full member of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN) from 1926. He studied at the Kyiv Polytechnical Institute and in 1914 became a professor there. He taught and conducted research at various institutions in Kyiv. He became director of the VUAN Institute of Technical Mechanics (in 1921) and the Kyiv branch of the Scientific Research Institute of Structures of the VUAN (in 1929) and was vice-president of the VUAN (1931–2). He studied fatigue effects in metals and wood, particularly in bridges, and developed the method of determining fatigue effects by drilling holes in materials. He also studied the strength of other building materials (eg, granite) and developed new equations and measuring methodology for structures. Among his numerous works are monographs, including textbooks on the statics of structures (1930), technical mechanics (1931), and spatial forms (1934).
