Wyczółkowski, Leon, b 11 April 1852 in Huta Miastkowska, Poland, d 27 December 1936 in Warsaw. Polish painter and graphic artist. He studied art in Warsaw, Munich, and Cracow. From 1879 to 1893 he lived mostly in Ukraine. He painted many landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits of peasants in Ukraine, such as Fishermen (1891), Tilling in Ukraine (1892), and Sower (1896). Among his many series of lithographs are the ‘Hutsul Portfolio’ (1910) and ‘Ukrainian Portfolio’ (1910) of landscapes, portraits, buildings, and still lifes.
