Berkos, Mykhailo [Беркос, Михайло], b 3 September 1861 in Odesa, d 20 December 1919 in Kharkiv. Landscape art painter. Berkos obtained his art education at the Drawing School of the Odesa Society for the Advancement of the Fine Arts (see Odesa Art School) (1877) and the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts (1878–89); he taught at the Kharkiv Painting School from 1904. Among his paintings, many of which are influenced by impressionism, are Flax in Bloom (1893), Street in Uman (1895), Thistles (1898), Happy Village (1901), June (1913), Landscape with Willows (1915), and Apple Tree in Bloom (1919).
