Potocki, Stanisław Rewera

Potocki, Stanisław Rewera, b 1579 in Pidhaitsi, Galicia, d 27 February 1667 in Pidhaitsi. Polish magnate and military leader. Potocki was appointed chamberlain of Podilia in 1621, castellan of Kamianets-Podilskyi in 1628, voivode of Bratslav voivodeship in 1631, voivode of Podilia voivodeship in 1636, field hetman (deputy commander in chief) of the Polish royal army in 1652, voivode of Kyiv voivodeship in 1653, grand hetman (commander in chief) of the army in 1654, and voivode of Cracow voivodeship in 1658. He commanded the Polish troops that fought against the Cossack rebellion led by Taras Fedorovych in 1630 and in the battle against the Crimean Tatars at Kamianets-Podilskyi in 1633, and troops during the Cossack-Polish War, in the Battle of Zboriv, the Battle of Berestechko, and the Battle of Bila Tserkva. Under his supreme command the Polish army fought the Cossacks and Muscovites in the Battle of Okhmativ and the Battle of Horodok in 1655 and the Muscovites in the Battle of Chudniv in 1660. Among the towns he owned were Kytaihorod and Panivtsi, in Podilia, and Pidhaitsi, in Galicia. He was starosta of Halych from 1627, Bar from 1651, and Dolyna from 1659.
