Acrostic. A poem in which the initial letters of each line, read from top to bottom, spell out a word or sentence. The acrostic was one of the most popular poetic forms in Ukrainian baroqueliterature. Many 18th-century authors recorded their own names in acrostics (eg, in the Bohohlasnyk and various manuscripts). After the baroque period the acrostic was used infrequently.
