Bevzenko, Stepan

Bevzenko, Stepan [Бевзенко, Степан], b 7 August 1920 in Stanyslavivka near Yelysavethrad, d 15 January 2005 in Kyiv. Dialectologist and historian of the Ukrainian language. He taught at Uzhhorod University and then at Odesa University. Bevzenko is the author of Istorychna morfolohiia ukraïns'koï movy (A Historical Morphology of the Ukrainian Language, 1960), which is a rather derivative work, and of a reverse dictionary of the Ukrainian language (published in fascicles in Odesa). He also wrote some studies on the Transcarpathian dialects and old texts of Transcarpathia and on the geographic distribution of syntactic features in Ukrainian dialects.
