Brown bear (Ursus arctos; Ukrainian: buryi vedmid.) An omnivorous mammal up to 2.5 m in length, 1.25 m high in the withers, and 750 kg in weight. Indigenous to Europe, it is now very rare in Ukraine and is protected as an endangered species in the forests of Polisia, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Caucasus Mountains.
