Forest Code of the Ukrainian SSR

Forest Code of the Ukrainian SSR (Лісовий кодекс УРСР; Lisovyi kodeks USRR). The principal source of forest legislation in Soviet Ukraine. The code was developed on the basis of the all-Union Foundations of Forest Legislation of the USSR and the Constituent Republics (1977). It was approved by the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR on 13 December 1979 and took effect on 1 April 1980. The code consisted of an introduction and seven chapters and contained 148 articles, which dealt with general principles (state ownership, powers of agencies of forest management), forest utilization, reforestation and the increase of productivity, conservation and environmental protection measures, government statistics and the forest register, forest maintenance, penalties for infringement of forest legislation, and international treaties.
