Haidamaka Cavalry Regiment

Haidamaka Cavalry Regiment (Гайдамацький кінний полк ім. К. Гордієнка; Haidamatskyi kinnyi polk im. K. Hordiienka). The first regular cavalry unit of the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. It originated within the Turkestan Division of the Russian army in southwestern Volhynia in late 1917 under Col Vsevolod Petriv. During January 1918 it fought its way to Kyiv and participated in combat defending the Central Rada. In March 1918 the regiment was incorporated into the Zaporozhian Corps and remained part of it until the Ukrainian struggle for independence (1917–20) ended.
