Holobutsky, Volodymyr

Holobutsky, Volodymyr [Голобуцький, Володимир; Holobuc'kyj], b 28 July 1903 in Velykyi Bir, Surazh county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 29 January 1993 in Kyiv. Historian. Since the mid-1930s he has worked at various Soviet higher educational institutions, including Chernivtsi University (1951–4), the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1947–61, 1974–9), and the Kyiv Institute of the National Economy (1955–71). His major works devoted to Ukrainian history of the 16th–19th centuries, particularly of the Cossacks, include Chernomorskoe kazachestvo (The Black Sea Cossacks, 1956), Zaporozhskoe kazachestvo (The Zaporozhian Cossacks, 1957), Zaporiz'ka Sich v ostanni chasy svoho isnuvannia, 1734–1775 (The Zaporozhian Sich in the Last Period of Its Existence, 1734–75, 1961), and Diplomaticheskaia istoriia osvoboditel'noi voiny ukrainskogo naroda, 1648–1654 gg. (The Diplomatic History of the Liberation War of the Ukrainian People, 1648–54, 1962).
