Hrechulevych, Vasyl

Hrechulevych, Vasyl [Гречулевич, Василь; Hrečulevyč, Vasyl'], b 1791 in Hnativtsi, Tulchyn county, Podilia voivodeship, d 1875 in Hannopil, Podilia gubernia. Archpriest of the Podilia eparchy with the see in Kamianets-Podilskyi. He wrote a popular collection of sermons, Propovedi na malorossiiskom iazyke (Sermons in the Little Russian Language, 1849; 2nd edn, 1857; new edition published in 2022), Katekhizicheskiia besedy na simvol very i molitvu Gospodniu (Catechismal Conversations on the Confession of Faith and the Lord’s Prayer, 1858), Besedy o semi tainstvakh (Conversations on the Seven Sacraments, 1859), and two conversations O dolzhnostiakh roditelei i detei (On the Duties of Parents and Children, 1859). All these books, despite their titles, were written in Ukrainian and are among the few Ukrainian religious works that were approved by Russian censors.
