Institutes of foreign languages

Institutes of foreign languages (інститути іноземних мов; instytuty inozemnykh mov). Pedagogical institutes that train teachers of foreign languages for higher educational institutions and upgrade the qualifications of language teachers. In the 1980s there were two such institutes in Ukraine: the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (est 1948) and the Horlivka Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (est 1949 in Bila Tserkva and moved to Horlivka in 1954). The former had six departments: English, French, German, Spanish, Russian (for foreign students), and professional development. The latter had two: English and French.
