Kadylo

Kadylo («Кадило»; The Censer). Satirical tabloid (see Humoristic and satiric press), edited and published irregularly from 1913 to 1918 by Pavlo Krat in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and finally, Toronto. From a socialist viewpoint the illustrated periodical lampooned the Catholic and Orthodox clergy, satirized the Ukrainian Canadian intelligentsia, and condemned the tsarist autocracy in the Russian Empire. It serialized several of Krat’s satirical works and featured political cartoons, including caricatures of prominent Ukrainian-Canadian figures. At least 25 issues appeared. Kropylo, published by Krat in Winnipeg shortly before Kadylo appeared, was very similar to its successor.
