Kovalenko, Leonid

Kovalenko, Leonid [Коваленко, Леонід], b 12 March 1907 in Stupychne, Zvenynhorodka county, Kyiv gubernia, d 22 June 1985 in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi oblast. Historian. He was a senior research associate at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1945 to 1947 and then taught at the Zhytomyr Pedagogical Institute (1947–56), Uzhhorod University (1956–61), and the Kamianets-Podilskyi Pedagogical Institute (1961–85). He wrote over 100 works devoted to Ukrainian historiography and the history of Western Europe and Hungary, including a conspectus of lectures on 19th-century Ukrainian historiography (1964), a book on the French Revolution and political movements in Ukraine (1973), and a book on the historiography of Ukraine prior to the Revolution of 1917 (1983).
