Kyiv Society of Aerial Navigation (Київське товариство повітроплавання; Kyivske tovarystvo povitroplavannia). An amateur society for the advancement of flight and aviation, formed in 1909 out of a circle interested in flying at the Kyiv Polytechnical Institute. The society was active until 1916, designing and testing flying machines, training pilots, and organizing competitions and exhibits. Its members included Ihor Sikorsky, P. Nesterov, A. Kudashev, and Dmytro Hryhorovych. Some planes designed by its members were later built successfully.
