Lashkevych, Oleksander

Lashkevych, Oleksander [Лашкевич, Олександер; Laškevyč], b 19 July 1842 in Brakhliv, Chernihiv gubernia, d 31 October 1889 in Kyiv. Historian and civic leader. He studied at Kyiv University and became involved in peasant reforms in the Kyiv and Podilia regions (1860s) and in zemstvo and legal reforms in the Chernihiv region (1870s and 1880s). He was a member of the Hromada of Kyiv and an editor and publisher of Kievskaia starina (1888–9). His works on the history of 18th-century Left-Bank Ukraine were published in journals such as Kievskaia starina (where his recollections were also published, posthumously, in 1899, no. 67) and Russkii arkhiv.
